Sweetwaters has been working with the Ann Arbor Women artist on creating fun and exciting shows for our Downtown location. We are now proud to announce the gallery line up for the rest of 2009. The Ann Arbor Women Artists is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1951 and has approximately 230 women and a few men with connections to Ann Arbor, Michigan, ranging from beginning to professional artists. The purpose of the AAWA is to stimulate creativity in order to continually raise the quality of the art produced.
Now the whole world can see what Ann Arborites love about Sweetwaters! Forbes.com has released an article of America’s Hometown Favorites and Sweetwaters along with Ann Arbor were the only places featured for Michigan!
Founders Lisa and Wei recently visited Kauai and toured the coffee plantation where our featured coffee is grown and harvested. They experienced first hand the warm sunny weather, volcanic soil, and ocean breezes that combine to produce a bean that is less acidic and broader in taste.
They learned that the wonderful consistency of Kauai coffee’s is due to all the beans being grown on a single estate. To keep the estate pristine and productive for future generations the plantation uses many environmentally friendly processes to reduce its impact on the estate and this beautiful island; water used for processing the beans is filtered and reused for irrigation, 100% renewable energy is used via the city’s hydro electricity plant, water and fertilizer is applied directly to the roots making them the largest drip irrigation coffee estate in the world!
We are featuring Kauai coffee during the months of March and April. Try a cup and taste why we love this tropical and well balanced coffee.
We continued the Sweetwaters tradition of having a lion dance at the opening of another new store. The colorful lions and loud booming drums were truly amazing. We combined our grand opening with a Chinese New Year celebration by having Chinese Yo-Yo performers and traditional Chinese stories told by Ann Arbor’s Frances Kai-Hwa Wang. Sweetwaters Plymouth Green was filled with lots of smiling faces all enjoying the festivities. If you missed our celebration, we’ve posted pictures and videos below. Hopefully you can come to the opening of the next Sweetwaters…..
On January 31st, we’re celebrating the opening of our new store, so grab a Ginger Lemon Tea, a delicious pastry, and a milkshake or Italian soda for the kids and enjoy some great family entertainment. Welcome to your new northside Sweetwaters!
At 6am on January 19th, we will be opening the doors of our newest cafe located in Plymouth Green Crossings! We have received so many emails from our customers anticipating this opening and it is finally here!

Help local families in need through the Alpha House “Gimmie Shelter” fundraiser. Alpha House gives shelter and aid to local families while also helping them secure and maintain their own homes. Last year the Gimmie Shelter dinner and silent auction raised over $92,000 for Alpha House! Sweetwaters will be providing coffee. So, pick up a fresh cup of coffee and join us in supporting this important local organization.
